Two arrested after infant left home alone

Columbus, IN—CPD officers arrested two people Sunday night after determining that an 11-month-old child was left alone in poor living conditions at a Columbus residence.  At approximately 11:15 p.m., CPD officers were dispatched to a residence on Elm Street in regards to a welfare check.  Several minutes later, the officers spoke to Bradley A. Longworth, 38, of Columbus who walked up to the residence.  He advised officers that he resides at the home and the infant child was picked up by a friend and not inside the house.

The officers made contact with the infant’s mother, Sarah E. Coe, 28, of Columbus who arrived at the residence a short time later.  Coe confirmed that the child was inside the house. When officers entered the home, they noted the deplorable living conditions inside including the overwhelming odor of animal urine and feces.

Both Coe and Longsworth were placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where they were remanded with a 48-hour hold on a preliminary charge of Neglect of a Dependent, a level six felony.

The Indiana Department of Child Services was contacted and assisted with the call.
