Trent A. Jones, 69, of Westport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at his residence. He was born on July 6, 1955, in Greensburg, Indiana the son of Harold A. and Joy E. (Jessup) Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Westport and attended Special Education classes at Adams, St. Paul and Greensburg. He also attended Sandcreek School. He was a member of the ARC of Decatur County. Trent was the first employee at DSI when they opened in 1975. He was recognized by the State of Indiana in 1995 for Resolution 69 at the Indiana General Assembly. He was member of the Westport Methodist Church where he served as an usher and sang solos. Trent enjoyed volunteering at the Greensburg Library and 20 years at South Decatur Elementary. He participated in the Special Olympics where he won many awards in bowling. Trent was known by the community for swinging on the porch and greeting everyone. He gave the BEST hugs. He traveled to many states and countries and went on many trips with his brother, Brian, home and abroad. He loved big band music, especially Lawrence Welk. He loved researching his family on Ancestry.com. He is survived by his brother, Brian H. Jones of Westport and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Ellaine Hussung officiating and assisted by Rev. Dawn Barnes. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the ARC of Decatur County or Westport Methodist Church through the funeral home.
