Top sports stories we reported January-March 2021

As we continue through the final week of 2021, here are some of the top sports highlights reported by WRBI between January and March of this year.

The Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles and the South Ripley Raider boys won the Ripley County Basketball Tournament.

East Central Swimming swept the EIAC Championships.  The Trojans Kyra Hall set two conference records and was named one of the conference MVPs.  Hall went on to win the 100 back at the Columbus North Sectional and place 13th at the state finals.

The East Central boys had four sectional champions: Nick Weber in both the 50 and 100 frees, Skyler Cavins in the 100 Fly and the foursome of Weber, Ayden Ketchum Matt Baddinghaus and Henry Strotman in the 200 free relay. Weber made the podium in the state finals placing seventh in the 50 free.

The EC Wrestling team claimed 10 of 14 weight classes to easily win the EIAC.  The Trojans took nine weight classes to dominate the South Dearborn Sectional and also won the Richmond Regional with six individual champions and 12 semi-state qualifiers overall.

Five East Central grapplers qualified for state including: Bryer Hall, Blake Wolf, Ben Wolf, Ryan Bovard and Kole Viel. Hall captured a state title in the 170 pound class while Viel made the podium with a seventh place finish at 220.

Batesville’s freshman boys basketball team went undefeated during the regular season and the Batesville girls C-team won the EIAC tournament.

And both the South Ripley Lady Raiders and East Central Lady Trojans captured basketball sectional championships.
