Toddler injured in Ripley County ATV crash

Milan, In. — Officers from the Indiana Department of Conservation say a three-year-old child was injured in an off-road vehicle accident Sunday in Ripley County.

Reports indicate a 12-year-old was operating a Polaris 850 Sportsman on private property in the 7000 block of Spades Road near Milan with a three-year-old passenger when the vehicle struck a barn. The three-year-old suffered a head injury as a result of the collision. Neither child was wearing a helmet at the time of the cash.

The three-year-old was flown to Riley Children’s Hospital with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries.

As of July 1, 2017, it is required by law that any person under the age of 18 must wear a DOT-approved helmet while operating or riding an Off Road Vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
