(Southeastern IN) – With Halloween coming up tomorrow, local law enforcement is encouraging parents and guardians to take a few extra steps to keep the little ghosts, goblins and superheroes safe while trick or treating.
Know your neighborhood
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says, before heading out, adults should visit the agency’s app to review information available on those listed on the Sex and Violent Offender Registry. The app includes a map showing registered sex offenders and addresses. If you’d like a safety flyer, contact the sheriff office Records Department at (812) 663-8125.
A few more safety tips:
- Accompany young children and supervise older children.
- Stick to familiar, well-lit neighborhoods and plan your route ahead of time.
- Use sidewalks when available, look both ways before crossing streets, and carry a flashlight or glow sticks.
- Remind children not to eat treats until an adult has inspected them.
- Make sure children know how to contact you and what to do if they become separated from your group.
Law enforcement agencies say their goal is for everyone to enjoy a fun, safe and memorable Halloween.
