Thomas Anthony Stein, 76, of Annville, unexpectedly passed away at his home on Saturday, August 22, 2026. He was born June 24, 1950, in Batesville, IN, son of the late William H. Stein, Sr. and Elizabeth (Vierling) Stein currently of Batesville, IN.
Thomas was a 1968 graduate of Batesville High School and retired from the former Hillenbrand Industries of Batesville, IN. He subsequently worked part-time in the Safety and Security Department of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts for eight years before retiring for the last time in 2025. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and traveling whenever he could.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia (Spellings) Stein, sons, Scott Stein and Christopher Stein (Heather); daughter, Amber Schell (Chad); eight grandchildren, Ashton Stein, Dylan Schell (Katrina), Summer Elliot (Jared), Braeden Stein (Kalena), Andrew Stein, Gabrielle Schell, Alyssa Stein, Tessa Landvick (McGwire); and four great grandchildren, Sophia Stein, Nylah Schell, Charlotte Stein, and Freya Stein; brothers, Bill Stein, Greg Stein, Dave Stein, Lawrence Stein, Michael Stein and sisters, Mary Starost, Cheryl Bitterman, and Melissa Bradley.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his son, Joel Brandon Stein; brother, Mark Stein.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 3, from 4 – 6 p.m., in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, 88 Lucy Avenue, Hershey, Pennsylvania 17036.
Visitation will also be held Saturday, September 12, from 9 – 10:45 a.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, with Fr. Jayaraju Bandari officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Heart Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
