‘The Sherman’ earns national honor

Batesville, IN Friendship State Bank and HPH Hospitality LLC, today announce that The Sherman has been accepted into the exclusive ranks of America’s Historic Hotels.

Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for recognizing and celebrating the finest Historic Hotels. Historic Hotels of America was founded in 1989 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation with 32 charter members.

Historic Hotels of America is comprised of mostly independently owned and operated historic hotels. To be nominated and selected for membership into this prestigious program, a hotel must be at least 50 years old; has been designated by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark or listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places; and recognized as having historic significance.

“We were aware of the organization from the start of our 2016 comprehensive renovations and knew that we had to meet certain high standards in order to be eligible for membership,” commented Georg Heringer of HPH Hospitality LLC. “After meticulous attention to detail throughout the renovation process, The Sherman has met the requirements.”

The Sherman, ideally situated approximately halfway between Cincinnati, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana has been a popular dining and lodging establishment in Southwest Indiana since the time of Lincoln. The designation into Historic Hotels of America will heighten awareness of the historic building thereby driving more visitors to the strong German-influenced destination area of Batesville and Oldenburg. The Sherman was comprehensively renovated in 2016 and reopened in 2017 by HPH Hospitality.
