
(Harrison, OH) – Classes are canceled today (Friday) at Harrison High School and Junior School in western Hamilton County, Ohio, following the sudden passing of a teacher and coach with Southeastern Indiana ties.
Steve Coffman taught math at both schools and coached several sports.
During his time at Southwest Local Schools, Steve Coffman taught at both Harrison Junior School and William Henry Harrison High School, where he taught a wide range of math courses.
Outside the classroom, he served as an assistant cross country coach at Harrison Junior School; assistant softball and cross country at the Harrison High School, and head boys basketball coach at the high school.
Coffman previously taught and coached at East Central and South Dearborn high schools.
Students were dismissed early on Thursday following Coffman’s passing, and all evening activities were canceled.
The building will be open today during normal school hours for any students or staff members who wish to gather.
Grief counselors and community support resources will be available from 9 a.m. to Noon for any student or staff member who needs to talk to someone.
In addition, supports will also be in place at Harrison High School when classes resume on Monday.
