(Decatur County, IN) – A special education teacher is facing several charges in Decatur County following an investigation that began last month.

28-year-old Paige Marie Simon of Osgood was arrested Friday at her home and charged in Decatur Circuit Court with Stalking and Official Misconduct (both Level 6 felonies), as well as Battery (Class B misdemeanor).

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says the charges stem from an investigation that began on April 6.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the parents of a 15-year-old male student at South Decatur Jr./Sr. High School told investigators their son received more than 600 inappropriate text messages from Simon between late February 2023 and last month.

Some of the texts allegedly contained sexual content including sexually explicit jokes and images.

Simon was hired in November 2022 by Decatur County Schools after leaving the Jac-Cen-Del School Corporation.

She resigned from her position as a special education teacher at South Decatur, effective April 10.

Simon appeared at an initial hearing on Monday and was released on her own recognizance.

Her trial has been scheduled for August 21 at 9 am.
