Suzanne Gant, 77 of Westport

Suzanne Gant, 77, of Westport, passed away at 4:25 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on January 17, 1946 at Columbus Hospital, the daughter of Donald A. and Rosella (Miller) Reed. She was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1964. Suzanne was a stay-at-home mom who took care of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed any and all activities that they were involved in. She was a member of the Westport Baptist Church where she taught the Preschool Sunday School Class for 25 years and she was active in the Wednesday night Bible study. She was also a member of the Mission Circle and the American Baptist Women’s Ministry. She organized mission and White Cross donations for many years. She was also a member of the Baker’s Dozen Home Economics Club. She married John P. Gant, Sr. on July 17, 1965 at Waynesburg Christian Church and he survives. Other survivors include her daughter, Lisa LuAnn (Cari Baumgartner) Gant of North Vernon; her son, John P. Gant, Jr. of Westport; brothers, Stephen Lee (Paula) Reed of Westport and Robert R. (Cathy) Reed of Columbus; granddaughters, Emily (Xavier Arnette) Gant of Lexington, Kentucky and Annalise (Lauren Conley) Gant of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Kendall Wildey officiating. Burial will take place following service at Bear Creek Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
