Susie A. Bacon

Susan Ann Bacon of Milroy, Indiana passed away suddenly on February 19, 2023 in Dunn, North Carolina.  She was 66 years old.  Born on February 28, 1956 in Rushville she was the daughter of Richard and Virginia (Siefert) Herbert.

Susie, as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, graduated from Rushville High School 1974. Susie married Ronald K. Bacon in August 1975. She started working as an administrative assistant for Indiana Insurance, then moved to Eli Lilly and finally retired from St. Francis Hospital where she worked in the PACE program. Susie and her husband, Ron attend Milroy United Methodist Church.

Susie loved sewing and needlework of all kinds. She even had a rug loom to make rugs and stitched together her share of quilts too. Basically she liked doing all kinds of crafts. Travel was another favorite of hers, whether it was going camping with her husband or visiting family around the country she was ready to go. Of course she enjoyed cooking, tending to her flowers and was an avid reader, always with a book in hand. Her dog and especially her cats were very dear to her as well, with one usually sitting in her lap.

Susie lived an incredibly fortunate life. In 1986 she was one of the first few to be a double heart & lung transplant recipient at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.  She was determined to beat the odds and she did for 36 years as one of the longest living recipients in the states.

Most of all, Susie will be remembered for her beautiful smile and the love she shared for her family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Ron; daughter and best friend, Kelli Bacon; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Beth Herbert; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Jack Day, plus her brother-in-law, Stephen Deal along with her extended family and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James Herbert and sister, Julie Deal.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 4, 2023 from 9:00am – 10:30am with a 10:30am Memorial Service all at Milroy United Methodist Church, 114 N. Pleasant St., Milroy, IN 46156.
