Susan M. Gartenman of Dayton, Ohio and formerly of Brookville, was born on March 3, 1961 in Batesville. She was the daughter of Harold A. and Donna L. Amrhein Back. Susan graduated from Brookville High School in 1979. In 1981 she married Gary J. Gartenman in Madrid, Spain and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2016. As a military wife, Susan and her family were stationed in several different locations throughout Gary’s time of service. She enjoyed spending time with her sons, painting, puzzle books, and coming back to Brookville to visit friends and family. On Friday, May 20, 2016 at the age of 55, Susan passed away at Butler and Warren County Hospice Center in Franklin, Ohio.
Those surviving who will cherish Susan’s memory include her two sons, Joshua (Amy) Gartenman of Miamisburg, OH, and Adam Gartenman of Kettering, OH, and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother and father, Harold and Donna Back; 4 siblings, Michael (Sue) Back of Indianapolis, Patrick (Mary) Back of Batesville, David (Melanie) Back of Brookville, Sarah (Michael) Alig of St. Leon, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Anetia Amrhein and Charles and Clara Back.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, 929 Main Street, Brookville. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Father Shaun Whittington, will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Services for Susan’s husband, Gary are the same day and time.
