AURORA, Ind. – A sixth grade student at Aurora Elementary brought an unloaded BB gun to school Tuesday, police said.
Dearborn County deputies were dispatched after the pellet gun was discovered by the principal and school resource officer inside the student’s locker.
Investigators say the student brought the BB gun the school to show friends.
South Dearborn Community Schools Superintendent John Merle said, “It was a poor choice the student made to bring an unloaded BB gun to school, and will have to face the consequences.”
“The investigation shows there was no malicious intent to harm anyone, it was just a very poor choice.
As far as disciplinary action taken, a school cannot lawfully release that information due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Merle sent out an alert message to parents through the school messenger system informing them about the incident.
