Steven Todd

Stephen “Steve” Todd, age 72 of Sunman, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at IU Methodist Hospital with friends and family close at hand, after battling stomach cancer since October 2019. Steve was born July 21, 1950, at Margaret Mary Health, Batesville to Robert and Lois Drockelman Todd.

During his life, Steve was many things to many people. After graduating Sunman High School, he served his country as a Marine in the Vietnam War. In 1971 Steve married the love of his life Marilyn. He continued serving his country, state, and community with a career as a highly respectable Indiana State Trooper. Steve was a member of Adams Lutheran Church.  After retirement Steve continued with volunteer work in a wide variety of organizations. He was a lifetime member, holding several offices, of The Sunman American Legion Post 337. Steve had a kind and generous soul and was always willing to assist those around him. He was always honored to do the simple things to help, regularly donating blood at the American Red Cross Blood Drives and organizing them at the American Legion.

When Steve got the opportunity to watch TV you would catch him watching westerns, sci-fi, and of course a good baseball game. In addition to many lazy afternoons spent horseback riding together; his children have fond memories of watching Star Trek (the original series) reruns with him on Sunday mornings after church; playing catch in the backyard and being tossed with laughter into the pool. Steve’s favorite non-western movie was White Christmas which he watched every year with a glass of whiskey.

During retirement, Steve and Marilyn traveled across the US enjoying adventures together including horseback riding and snowmobiling. After Marilyn passed, Steve continued to travel wanting to visit as many National Parks as he could, collecting a commemorative shot glass from each destination.

Steve is survived by his parents, Robert and Lois Todd; brother Don (Janet) Todd; sister, Pat (Mike) Ragland; his extended family of brothers and sisters by marriage; many beloved nieces and nephews; three sons, Brian, Eric and Jason; daughter-in-law, Sarah; son-in-law, Darrell and his much-loved grandchildren, Maddie, Beau and Luke. Steve was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Marilyn Todd.
