Steven Paul Sauerland, 73, of Brookville, Indiana, passed away Sunday morning, September 24, 2023, at his home.
He was born on January 14, 1950, in Batesville, Indiana. He was one of five children born to the late Paul F. and LaVerne M. (Tebbe) Sauerland. He was united in marriage on January 28, 1972, to Michele ‘Mickie’ Leffingwell, and she survives.
Steve attended Holy Guardian Angels School and was a 1968 graduate of Whitewater High School. He was a lifelong truck driver and retired in 2015. He was also a member of St. Michael Church (SMC) and the former Holy Guardian Angles Church. He had served as a lector at both and also taught Confirmation classes at SMC. He was a member of Council 1010 of The Knights of Columbus, Harrison, and SMC Men’s CRHP, a CASA volunteer, and was also the former Chief of the Drewersburg Fire Department.
Besides Mickie, his loving wife of over 51 years, survivors include seven children, Jeremy ‘Jamie’ (Regina) Sauerland of West Harrison, Joshua Sauerland of West Harrison, Jessica (Tom) Cates of Connersville, Jacob (Miranda) Sauerland of Connersville, Jenna (Nick) Summers of DeMotte, Gabrielle Sauerland (Lizette Velez) of Harrison, Ohio, and Steven ‘Moe’ (Jill) Sauerland, Jr. of West Harrison; ten grandchildren: Sean, Elaina, Molly, Mia, Ainsley, Emma, Nickolas, Eldon, Polly, and Jameson; a sister, Donna (Jack) Ketcham of Logan, a brother, Tony (Patti) Sauerland of Batesville, and sister-in-law, Cheryl ‘Sherry’ Sauerland of West Harrison; as well as many nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Thomas Sauerland, a sister, Victoria Beck, and a brother, Michael Sauerland.
Family and friends may visit from 4-7 P.M. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville; followed by the rosary.
Rev. Vincent Lampert will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 10 A.M. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 145 East St. Michael Blvd, Brookville. Burial will take place at a later date.
