St. Paul man killed, another injured in rollover crash

ST. PAUL, IN — A man from St. Paul is dead and another was taken by StatFlight to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following a single-vehicle crash that occurred around 9:15 Saturday night on the 7,000 block of North Old US Highway 421.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says the initial report indicated the vehicle was on fire.

When deputies arrived at the accident scene, they found two men outside of the vehicle.

CPR was administered to 50-year-old Shawn Scudder, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The other victim, 27-year-old Alan Conner – who is also a St. Paul resident — was flown to the hospital.

The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was headed south when – for an unknown reason – it went off the road, hit a tree, and rolled over.

An Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists was called to the scene.

The deadly crash remains under investigation.

In addition to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, the following agencies were involved with the call: the Decatur County Communications Center, Decatur County EMS, St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department, Greensburg Fire Department, Indiana State Police, Shelby County EMS, Shelby County Dispatch and the Decatur County Coroner’s Office.
