St. Louis 5th and 6th Grade Split Wins

Batesville, IN – The Cardinals 5th and 6th grade basketball teams hosted Mount Carmel on Monday night as both teams continue to get in the flow of things in the young season.

The 5th grade kicked things off on Monday, starting slow and finding themselves down 12-6 at the conclusion of the first quarter. The Cardinals kept fighting back and put up another 6 points in the second quarter only allowing their opponent to gain 3 points.

Things quickly changed for good for the Cardinals, as they scored 12 in the third to take the lead and held Mount Carmel to only 4 as they began to settle in. In the fourth quarter, defense prevailed as St. Louis held them scoreless, winning 30-19 behind JJ Hountz’s 18 points to lead all scorers. Lucas Werner and Luke Enneking contributed 4 points each. Kaleb Hardebeck and Ethan Dierckman both contributed 2 points as well. The 5th grade improves to 3-0 on the year.

St. Louis’ 6th Grade wrapped up the evening with a closely contested battle with Mount Carmel. The Cardinals scrappy press defense at the end of the game allowed them to stay within striking distance, but they fell just short. Leading the way on the offensive end was Nicholas Lieland with 6 points, Carter Meyer with 5 points, Owen Wanstrath 2 points, and Ross Lieland adding 1.

The Cardinals will host the St. Michael Trojans tonight, November 12th, with the 5th grade looking to stay undefeated and the 6th looking to get back in the win column.
