Sister Teresa Trick (formerly Sister Bertha Rose), age 98 of the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died on September 27, 2026, at the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Indiana. Born in Dayton, Ohio, she was the fourth oldest of ten children born to Lawrence and Bertha (nee: Schnorr) Trick. Her father was a tool designer, and her mother was a homemaker.
Sister Teresa attended Our Lady of Mercy School for grades 1-8 and Julienne High School, both in Dayton, Ohio. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Marian College in 1957. She continued her education throughout summers to keep abreast of changes and to retain her teaching certificates for Ohio and Indiana.
Sister Teresa was a teacher for 39 years, teaching grades 1-5, except for her final year, where she taught English at a language center. After teaching, her ministry shifted to becoming a library assistant at the Main Public Library in Cincinnati, where she spent ten years helping others. After a brief sabbatical, Sister Teresa spent three years volunteering at St. Bernard, Winton Place; Mother of Christ Food Pantry; and as a Teacher’s Aide at St. Clement School.
Sister Teresa returned to the Motherhouse in 2001 where she took on many roles, including running the media center, running the camera in the community room, baking birthday cakes, volunteering at the food pantry, eucharistic minister for St. Clare Hall, reading petitions at mass, gardening and flower arrangement, taking watches and shoes to repair shops for the Sisters, even learning to drive the golf cart so she could take Sisters around to see the flowers around campus. She was always on the move and enjoyed participating in the activities offered at the Motherhouse and dressing up for special occasions such as Halloween. Sister Teresa recently celebrated her 80th Jubilee Year as an Oldenburg Franciscan.
She is survived by her brother William (Joan), many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Herman (Henrietta), Robert, Leonard (Betty), Edward (Jacqueline), Louis (Judy), Rev. James, Leo (Anne) and Lawrence.
Prayer and visitation will be Thursday, October 8, at 1:00 p.m. followed by the Mass at 2:00 p.m., all at the convent chapel. The burial will be at the Motherhouse Cemetery in Oldenburg.
