Sr. Monica Zore, age 76 of the Sisters of St. Francis in Oldenburg, Indiana, died on December 10, 2024, at the Motherhouse in Oldenburg, Indiana. She was born on November 1, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana, one of five children born to the late Victor and Dorothea (nee: Rosner) Zore. Her father was a mail carrier, and her mother was a homemaker.

Sr. Monica’s beginning education included Holy Trinity School and St. Mary Academy, both in Indianapolis. She went on to Marian College (now University) to receive a bachelor’s degree in Math. Sr. Monica completed her master’s degree in education at Butler University.

After graduating from Marian, Sr. Monica spent eleven years at Badin High School. She taught high school math, as well as being a department chair for a year. Upon leaving Badin, she went back to Marian in 1983 as an instructor of mathematics, and in 1986 was promoted as assistant professor of mathematics and was tenured in 1990. She served on several committees, including the admissions Committee and as chair of the College Council. She also worked with the RCIA program through campus ministry. She remained at Marian for a total of 39 years, until her return to the Motherhouse for retirement.

One of her favorite spots at Marian was the fountain in the center of the campus. She said “it is a reminder of God’s extravagant, overflowing love. It is constantly pouring out and it never runs out.” When not spending time there or elsewhere on the campus, Sr. Monica enjoyed sewing, reading, cross-stitching, and quilting. She was also known for her great sense of humor.

Sr. Monica is survived by sisters Nancy Holmes and Melissa (Steven) Hendricks and brother Gerald (Debra) Zore. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Victor Zore (Virginia) and brother-in-law Ellis Holmes.
