Batesville girls soccer played to a 4-4 tie with Columbus North on Tuesday. Addie Reding, Kenzi Lacey, Elia Wade and Hailee Weisenbach scored goals for the Bulldogs. Reding added two assists while Maddie Prewitt had one. Columbus North won the JV match 2-nil.
Oldenburg Academy boys soccer blanked Centerville 5-nil on the Bulldogs’ home pitch. Connor Holder scored two goals for the Twisters. Rylan Hill, Adam Weber and Augie Sheppard also found the back of the net. Will Jones had an assist. The OA defense allowed only one shot on goal. The Twisters improve to 12-3 and will play their final regular season match at Richmond Thursday at 5:30.
At the SEI Volleyball Tournament at Greendale, Batesville Middle School 7th grade fell to the host Tigers in three sets (25-18-B, 25-21-G, 15-9-G). Coach Angie Ehrman’s team finishes the season at 14-2…Batesville 8th grade defeated Greendale in three highly-competitive sets (25-10-B, 25-20-G, 17-15-B). Coach Shelly Prickel’s squad moves to 13-3 and will play South Ripley Thursday for the championship.
The Indiana Fever beat the Las Vegas Aces 98-88 in WNBA first round playoff action in downtown Indy last night. Caitlin Clark had a double double: 27 points and 15 assists. Kelsey Mitchell added 26 points while Aliyah Boston contributed 22. The best-of-three series is tied at two games a piece. The decisive Game 3 is tomorrow night in Vegas.
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz is the National League Player of the Month for September. De La Cruz hit .348 with nine home runs, 19 driven in, six doubles, 14 walks, 18 runs scored, and six stolen bases. The two-time All-Star was one of three players to eclipse 30 homers and 30 stolen bases this year. He’s also just the fourth player in Reds franchise history to join the 30/30 Club.
