Oldenburg Academy volleyball notched wins on back-to-back nights. The Twisted defeated Edinburgh 3-1 on Tuesday night, and knocked off Morristown on Wednesday, also in four sets. Ali Nobbe had 60 kills in the two matches combined. OA now stands at 5 and 2 on the year.
The Reds downed the San Diego Padres 7-3 in the series wrap up in downtown Cincinnati heard yesterday afternoon on WRBI. With the win, the Reds claim the series two games to one. Lefthander Brandon Williamson made his first start since going on the Injured List (left shoulder fatigue) in late April and got the win after giving up seven hits, three earned runs, and two walks with five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. The Reds hit three home runs on the afternoon. Juan Brito clubbed his first Major League homer. Hector Rodriguez and JJ Bleday also went deep. Dane Myers added three hits. The Reds are off today before starting a three-game series at home against the National League Central Division-leading Milwaukee Brewers tomorrow night.
Reds third baseman and designated hitter Eugenio Suarez passed his U.S. citizenship test, team announced Wednesday. The native of Venezuela missed the Reds’ games against the Padres on Tuesday and Wednesday at Great American Ball Park to take the test, which consists of a written English language exam, an oral civics test and an interview – all of which are required to obtain U.S. citizenship.
Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell is the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for August. It’s the second consecutive month that Mitchell has won the award. Mitchell averaged a league-high 28.9 points per game, 53.4 percent from three-point range, and a league-best 55.6 percent from the field. It’s the third month in a row a Fever player has won the award; Mitchell’s backcourt mate Caitlin Clark was Eastern Conference Player of the Month in June.
