East Central shut out Batesville 6-nil in girls varsity soccer in St. Leon last night. As a result, the Trojans and Bulldogs share the EIAC championship. In the JV match, it was EC over Batesville 2-nil.
Batesville Middle School volleyball took two from Milan in the first round of the SEI Tournament. The Bulldogs claimed the 7th grade match in two sets (25-3, 25-15), while the BMS 8th graders outlasted the Indians in three (25-24-M, 25-20-B, 15-5-B). Batesville hosts Greendale in second round action tonight.
The Batesville girls finished first at the EIAC Middle School cross country meet at Greensburg. Bulldog 8th grader Emmalynn Allgeier was the girls race individual champion. BMS had 22 points while the host Pirates had 49. Greensburg won the boys race with 46, followed by Connersville with 52 and Batesville 59. Cristian Peralta led the Dogs with a 5th place finish.
The Indiana Fever host the Las Vegas Aces in game two of their WNBA opening round playoff series tonight. The Fever trails the best-of-three series one game to none and need a win to continue their season. Tipoff tonight in downtown Indianapolis is at 6:30.
Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Gordon Johncock died Monday at his home in Michigan. Johncock won the Indy 500 in 1973 and outdueled Rick Mears in the closing laps of the 1982 race for his second win the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. Gordon Johncock was 90.
On Monday Night Football, it was the Chicago Bears over the Philadelphia Eagles 27-7.
