Batesville won its seventh consecutive IHSAA girls golf sectional championship on Saturday at Greensburg Country Club. The Bulldogs as a team fired a 346. Also advancing to the regional were the host Pirates, who carded a 362; and Franklin County, which shot a 384. Batesville was led by sophomore Stella Maple, who took home the individual sectional title with a 79. North Decatur’s Mary Stier fired a 95 to advance individually to this Saturday’s regional at Legends Golf Course in Franklin.
Oldenburg Academy boys soccer blanked Indian Creek 2-nil on Saturday at the Graveyard. Adam Weber and Connor Holder scored the Twisters’ goals. The OA defense limited the Braves to five shots on goal; three of those were saved by goalie Ryan Hautman. The Twisters have won eight straight.
Batesville girls soccer pitched a 9-nil shutout at Jennings County. Hailee Weisenbach and Elia Wade scored two goals each. Wade added three assists while Addie Reding recorded two. Brynlie Oesterling and Macey Benjamin combined in goal on the shutout.
At the 16-team Columbus North cross country Invitational at Ceraland Park, the Batesville girls team finished fifth, while East Central came in 10th. Jayla Bedel led the way for the Bulldogs with an individual 20th place finish (19:48). The Trojans top runner was Lily Gambrel, who came in 32nd (20:32). The BHS boys finished 12th with the Trojans right behind at 13. East Central’s Abram Hiltz paced the Trojans (66th, 17:39). Junior Levi Essick (68th, 174) led the way for Batesville.
Shelbyville claimed both the varsity and JV boys tennis matches at Batesville. It was the Golden Bears over the Bulldogs 4-1 in the varsity contest, and 6-2 in the JV match.

The Cincinnati Reds closed out the home portion of the 2026 schedule with a 9-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs in a game heard yesterday on WRBI. The Reds are off today before starting the final road trip of the season with the first of three tomorrow night in Atlanta against the Braves.
Before yesterday’s game, the Reds designated for assignment outfielder TJ Friedl; placed starting pitcher Chase Burns on the 15-day Injured List with a right groin strain, retroactive to September 19; and recalled from Triple-A Louisville righthanded pitcher Carson Spiers.
The Cincinnati Bengals dumped the Houston Texans 20-6 in NFL action yesterday in the Lone Star State. Joe Burrow threw two touchdown passes – both to Ja’Marr Chase. The Bengals go to 2-0. The Kansas City Chief outlasted the visiting Indianapolis Colts 33-30 in overtime on Sunday Night Football. Harrison Butker’s 40 yard field goal in the extra period won it for the Chiefs. The Colts fall to 0-2.
The Washington Mystics cooled off the Indiana Fever 93-77 in WNBA action yesterday in downtown Indianapolis. Caitlin Clark scored a game-high 25 points to lead Indiana. The Fever is back on the court tomorrow night against the Minnesota Lynx.
