South Decatur varsity volleyball knocked off Crothersville in three sets last night. The game was moved to the middle school gym after a light broke in the main gym. Makayla Somers led the way for the Cougars with 26 assists, five aces, six kills, three digs, and 4 total blocks. The South Decatur jayvee team won in two sets.

In middle school volleyball, Batesville 7th grade topped East Central in three sets. The Trojans took the 8th grade match in two sets.

St. Louis went to South Decatur and swept the Cougars. It was the Cardinal 7th grade team winning in two sets, while St. Louis took the 8th grade tilt in three sets.

Batesville won a four-way middle school girls cross country meet last night at Greendale which also involved East Central and St. Lawrence. The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 21 followed by the Trojans at 43 and St. Lawrence with 73. Greendale did not field a complete team. Batesville 8th grader Ava Wade was the meet champ, crossing the finish line just before Elia Wade, who finished second. In the boys’ race, it was host Greendale 46, Batesville 48, East Central 65 and St. Lawrence with 78. Bulldog 7th grader Cael Luhman placed third overall.

Senior quarterback Will Jaisle’s six touchdown passes in Batesville’s 55-20 win Friday night at Rushville broke the single-game mark previously held jointly by Melvin Seifert, who threw five TD passes in 1979 against Milan and Trey Heidlage, who had five touchdown passes against the Lions in 2017. Jaisle also eclipsed the 50-career TD pass mark Friday at Rushville. He now has a school record 55 for his career. And Bulldog senior wideout Damien Dance’s 270 receiving yards on Friday broke the single-game mark of 218 set by Austin Seifert in 2018 versus Greensburg.

The Reds begin the final homestand of the season tonight when they open a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves. Coverage begins at 6:10 on 103.9 WRBI.

On Monday Night Football, the Atlanta Falcons got past the Philadelphia Eagles 22-21.
