Batesville girls golf won the EIAC championship for the sixth straight year on Saturday at the Links in Rising Sun. The Bulldogs’ Alexis Gallagher took conference MVP honors with a six-over-par-77.
Greensburg shut out Batesville 3-nil in boys soccer.
Batesville blanked Franklin County 5-nil in girls soccer. Elia Wade scored two goals and had an assist for the Bulldogs. Brynlie Oesterling recorded her sixth shutout of the year in goal.
Batesville varsity volleyball defeated South Ripley and Milan to win the Ripley County Tournament. The Bulldogs’ Maddie Haskamp set a new school record with 278 career blocks, surpassing the mark set by Ali Roper in 2011…Batesville also won the JV Ripley County Tournament, with victories over South Ripley and Jac-Cen-Del.
In boys tennis on Saturday, it was Batesville over Madison 3-0 in a match shortened by rain.

The Cincinnati Reds got past the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 to salvage the final game of the series as heard yesterday on WRBI. Eugenio Suarez clubbed a three-run homer, and Tyler Stephenson’s RBI sacrifice fly in the 8th inning scored Elly De La Cruz lifted the Reds to the win and keep them from going winless on the six-game road trip. The Reds open the final homestand of the season tonight with the first of f0ur against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Nick Lodolo (3-4, 5.12 ERA) makes the start for Cincinnati. In NFL season openers yesterday, the Bengals shipwrecked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 33-27 in downtown Cincinnati. Joe Burrow threw for 254 yards, a touchdown and an interception returned for a Bucs score. The revamped Bengals defense forced four turnovers….The Baltimore Ravens corralled the Colts 41-23 in downtown Indianapolis. Jonathan Taylor ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Daniel Jones threw for 166 yards, a TD and a pick.
