IHSAA girls soccer sectionals kicked off last night. In Class 1A Sectional 44 at Rising Sun and the only match involving area teams, it was Milan over South Ripley 6-1. The Indians put the match away with four goals in the second half. Milan improves to 7-5. The Raiders season ends at 3-10-2.
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz and first baseman Sal Stewart are among 10 National League nominees for Major League Baseball’s Hank Aaron Award, which is presented annually to best overall offensive performer in each league. Stewart led the Reds this season in home runs (32), RBIs (112) and hits (164). His RBI total was the third highest in all of baseball. De La Cruz became just the fourth player in Reds history to join the 30/30 club, hitting 30 homers and stealing a team-high 30 bags. He added another 30 to the list with a team-leading 30 doubles.
