Lawrenceburg got past Batesville 4-3 in a varsity baseball business day special yesterday afternoon at the BHS sports complex.
Oldenburg Academy blanked Milan 6-0. Twister senior Zach Hoff struck out 12 Indians in 6 innings of work and got the win.
Batesville took both ends of the Ripley County Track and Field Meet last evening. In the boys meet, it was Batesville 105 after the Bulldogs won 11 of 16 events, Milan 57, South Ripley 41 and Jac-Cen-Del 21. Batesville’s Brock Mahon took boys MVP honors. On the girls side, Batesville won all but one event and racked up 138 points, South Ripley 53, Milan 30 and Jac-Cen-Del 7. The Raiders Alexa Yeomans was the girls meet MVP.
Batesville topped Union County 157-171 in boys golf at Liberty Country Club. Bulldog senior Jackson Day earned medalist honors by shooting a 38. Batesville also won the JV match, 207-245.
In middle school golf, Batesville’s A team remains undefeated after besting host Columbus Central 136-146. Stella Maple was the medalist after carding a 29. The Bulldog B team also came out on top, 156-171. Brody Strouse and Nathan Mehlon each shot a 38 and shared medalist honors.
The Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers meet in Game Three of their Eastern Conference semifinal series tonight in downtown Indianapolis. Indiana leads the best of seven series two games to none. Airtime on the Sports Voice is 7 p.m.
The Atlanta Braves came from behind to beat the Reds 5-4 in 11 innings in a game heard last night on WRBI. The Braves win three of the four games played in Atlanta. Cincinnati begins a three-game weekend series tonight in Houston against the Astros. Nick Martinez gets the ball for the Reds. He’ll be opposed by Hunter Brown. First pitch is 8:10. We’ll join the game in progress following Pacers playoff basketball.
Reds pitching ace Hunter Greene will be placed on the 15-day injured list with a right groin strain. Greene underwent an MRI in Atlanta yesterday, after suffering the injury while warming up before the 4th inning of Wednesday night’s game.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have fired manager Derek Shelton after five-plus seasons. The Pirates got off to a 12-26 start this season under Shelton. Bench coach Don Kelly has been named the team’s new manager.
