Milan blanked Trinity Lutheran 13-0 in 6 innings to win the Class 1A softball sectional championship at Rising Sun as heard last night on the Sports Voice. It’s the Indians’ second straight sectional title and eighth in program history. Milan jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning, added a run in the 2nd, and exploded for seven more in the 6th when they sent 11 hitters to the plate. Indians pitcher Kynadee Bode tossed a five-hit shutout. Among her eight strikeouts was the 800th of her career. Second-ranked and 29-4 Milan will host a 1A regional next Tuesday night at 6 against the winner of the Tri sectional…In one sectional 59 semifinal at Tri last night, North Decatur destroyed Waldron 18-0. The Chargers play Knightstown for that sectional championship tomorrow evening.
Also in softball sectional play last night, Jennings County got past Greensburg 2-1 for the 3A title at Franklin County.
Batesville and South Dearborn advanced in the Class 3A baseball sectional on the Bulldogs home field with opening round wins last evening. Batesville pitcher Carson Meyer threw a no-hitter in the Bulldogs’ 2-0 win over Lawrenceburg as heard last night on WRBI. Meyer struck out 13 Tigers while walking 1. Batesville plated a run a piece in the 5th and 6th innings….In the opening game last night at the Dawg Pound, it was South Dearborn over Franklin County 2-1…We’ll have both semifinal games from the Batesville sectional tonight on the Sports Voice. Batesville and South Dearborn meet in the opener, followed by Greensburg vs. Jennings County. Coverage begins at 5:15 on 103.9 FM and the Sports Voice.
In 1A baseball at Shawe Memorial, Jac-Cen-Del topped Milan 3-1, and Oldenburg Academy got past Rising Sun 6-5. South Decatur crushed Edinburgh 18-0 at the Morristown 1A sectional.
The Oldenburg Academy #1 doubles team of Ashley Hunter and Hailey Hoffman advanced in the individual IHSAA doubles tournament. They posted a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win.
The Reds start a three-game series tonight in downtown Cincinnati against the Atlanta Braves. Chris Paddack makes the start for the Reds. First pitch is at 6:40.
The Golden State Valkyries slid past the Indiana Fever 90-88 in WNBA action late last night on the West Coast. Caitlin Clark and Raven Johnson scored 16 points a piece.
