Milan eliminated Jac-Cen-Del 10-0 in 5 innings in Class 1A softball sectional semifinal action last night at Rising Sun, The Indians’ Kynadee Bode threw a two-hit shutout, with seven strikeouts and three walks. Mallory Eaglin and Braelyn Dew both had two hits. Bode, Emma Voss, and Jilliane Herd each drove in a run. Paige Pindell and Josie Allen both singled for the Eagles. Milan takes on Trinity Lutheran in this evening’s sectional title game. In the other semifinal, the Cougars erased a 3-1 deficit with five runs in the top of the 7th inning to beat Hauser 6-3. In Class 1A at Tri, Knightstown bested South Decatur 7-1, and in 4A play, it was Franklin Community over East Central 13-3 in 5 innings.
Tonight, North Decatur faces Waldron in Class 1A at Tri.
Last night’s scheduled Class 3A baseball sectional doubleheader at Batesville was postponed to tonight. Franklin County takes on South Dearborn at 5:30, followed by the host Bulldogs against Lawrenceburg in the nightcap. We’ll have the contest between the Bulldogs and Tigers tonight on the Sports Voice following softball sectional action.
The Mets doubled up the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 in New York in a game heard last night on WRBI. Andrew Abbott took the loss. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits with a walk and 4 strikeouts over 6 innings. The Reds cranked out eight hits on the night, but left 17 runners on base and went 3 for 15 with runners in scoring position. Despite the loss, Cincinnati wins the series two games to one. The Reds have the day off before starting a six-game homestand tomorrow night with the first of three against the Atlanta Braves.
The Indiana Fever begin a two-game West Coast road trip tonight against the Golden State Valkyries. Tipoff in San Francisco is 10 p.m.
The Cincinnati Bengals have added five nominees to the team’s Ring of Honor ballot prior to the annual voting period for season ticket members. The former players added to the ballot are Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap, A.J. Green, Leon Hall and Andrew Whitworth. They join current nominees Jim Breech, James Brooks, Cris Collinsworth, David Fulcher, Max Montoya, Bob Trumpy and Reggie Williams on the 12-man ballot. The voting period for season ticket members runs June 1 through 12.
