
Milan defeated Rising Sun 6-1 in Class 1A softball sectional action heard yesterday on the Sports Voice. Kynadee Bode went 3 for 4 with a home run, and two driven in. On the mound, Bode gave up five hits, an earned run, and struck out four with no walks to get the complete game win. The Indians move on to the second round and will face Jac-Cen-Del this evening.
In other first round softball sectional games on Monday, Hauser run ruled Oldenburg Academy 10-0 at Rising Sun; Lawrenceburg got past host Franklin County 5-4 in Class 3A; Jennings County hammered South Dearborn 17-2; and it was Switzerland County over South Ripley 13-2 at the 2A sectional at Brownstown Central.
Coming up this evening, we have a doubleheader from the 3A sectional at Franklin County. Batesville takes on Jennings County in the lid lifter, followed by Greensburg against Lawrenceburg. Coverage begins at 5:15 on 103.9 FM and the WRBI App.
In other sectionals involving area teams, East Central takes on Columbus East in 4A play at Whiteland, and North Decatur faces Morristown in Class 1A at Tri.
The Cincinnati Reds hammered the New York Mets 7-2 in the series opener at Citi Field heard yesterday on WRBI. JJ Bleday and Tyler Stephenson both homered for the Reds. Nick Lodolo notched his first win of the year. He went six innings, gave up six hits, an earned run, and struck out seven. Game two of the series is tonight. First pitch is at 7:10.
Felix Rosenqvist’s win at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday set another record with a $4.34 million payout. It’s the fifth straight year that the Indy 500 purse has set a new record for total and individual winnings.
IndyCar has penalized Alex Palou after his car failed a postrace inspection following Sunday’s Indianapolis 500. Palou was docked five championship points and his team fined $10,000 for out-of-compliance front wing dimensions. Palou keeps his seventh place race finish and maintains his overall lead in the championship standings.
