Batesville knocked off Rushville 6-1 in varsity baseball last evening at the Dawg Pound. Brayden Maple gave up 1 run on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk and got the complete game win. Maple and Rylan Yeager led the Bulldogs offense with two hits and an RBI a piece. Preston Blessing and Noah Weigel each drove in a run. The two teams meet again at Rushville on Thursday night.
Batesville also claimed the JV contest 9-3. Michael Linville paced the Bulldogs at the plate with 3 RBIs.
Franklin County won the middle school golf Batesville Invite last night at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. The Wildcats as a team shot a 171. Runner up East Central carded a 177. BMS Team #1 shot a 201, led by Rowan Maple’s 44. Batesville Team #2 fired a 237, led by a 57 from Olliver Strole. And BMS Team #3 was paced by Jordan Erhart’s 63.
The Cincinnati Reds begin a three-game series tonight against the Washington Nationals at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati is coming off a weekend series win over Houston. Brady Singer gets the start for the Reds. He’s 2-2 with a 5.63 earned run average. The Nationals will counter with Miles Mikolas, who is 1-3 with a 7.44 ERA. Airtime is 6:10 on 103.9 FM.
Reds manager Terry Francona says starting pitcher Rhett Lowder will be placed on the 15-day injured list before tonight’s game. Lowder is dealing with a shoulder issue. He came out of last Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field after throwing one pitch in the 4th inning. No decision has been made on who will be coming up from Triple-A Louisville to take his spot.
The Indiana Fever have signed guard Bree Hall to the team’s final Player Development roster spot. Hall returns to Indiana, which selected her at #20 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft out of South Carolina, where she was a two-time NCAA national champion.
Practice for the 110th Indianapolis 500 starts today. The 33-car field will consist of nine past winners of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” and five IndyCar series champions…
Meanwhile, IndyCar is changing how drivers qualify for the Indy 500. There will be 12 drivers vying for the pole on Pole Day this weekend. Also, cars ranked 10 through 15 on Saturday will have the chance to bump cars out of the final three spots of the Fast 12. In similar manner, the fastest 12 drivers after that will have another attempt to make the Fast Six, and then the fastest six will run for the pole.
President Trump welcomed the 2025-26 college football national champion Indiana Hoosiers to the White House on Monday. Trump congratulated the team and head coach Curt Cignetti, calling their season historic. Heisman Trophy winner and number one NFL draft pick Fernando Mendoza was absent from the event. Trump said the quarterback called him to say, as a rookie, he can’t afford to miss any practice with the Las Vegas Raiders.
