The St. Louis Cardinals routed the Cincinnati Reds 10-3 at Busch Stadium in a game heard last night on WRBI. The Cardinals put the game away with a six-run 6th inning in which 12 St. Louis hitters faced a litany of Reds relievers. Brady Singer went 4 innings and gave up 4 hits, an earned run, 3 walks with 6 strikeouts and was tagged with the loss. His record falls to 2-6. Game two of the series is this afternoon. Nick Lodolo (2-1, 5.20 ERA) gets the start for Cincinnati. We’ll join the game in progress following high school softball semi-state coverage.
Reds pitching coach Derek Johnson is taking an indefinite personal leave of absence. Assistant pitching coach Matt Tracy will step into some of Johnson’s gameday duties for now, including mound visits. The team made the announcement prior to last night’s game. Johnson has been the Reds pitching coach since 2019.
