The Cincinnati Reds came from behind to beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3 in 10 innings at Great American Ball Park in a game heard last night on WRBI. Cincinnati trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the 9th inning until Will Benson smacked a pinch-hit home run to tie the game and send it into extra innings. Blake Dunn’s single to shallow center field in the 10th plated ghost runner Spencer Steer with the game-winning run. Steer also homered twice in the game – a solo shot to left in the 5th inning, and big fly to right field in the 8th. Andrew Abbott started but did not figure into the decision. He went 6 innings, gave up 5 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 4 and struck out 5. Brock Burke got the win in relief to even his record at 2-2. The rubber match of the series is tonight. Chase Burns (7-1, 1.96 ERA), who was scratched on Tuesday because of an illness, will start for the Reds. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 103.9 FM.
Before last night’s game, the Reds selected from Triple-A Louisville righthanded pitcher Zach McClambey and recalled reliever Luis Mey. The team designated for assignment pitchers Brandon Leibrandt and Lyon Richardson. And placed starter Rhett Lowder on rehab assignment at Louisville.
