The Arizona Diamondbacks topped the Reds 5-3 in the series finale in downtown Cincinnati heard yesterday on WRBI. After an hour and 12 minute rain delay, Gabriel Moreno hit a go-ahead home run off reliever Zach Maxwell to lead off the top of the 8th inning. Chris Paddack surrendered another run in the top of the 9th. Maxwell took the loss and is 0-1. Andrew Abbott started and gave up 4 hits, an earned run, and 3 walks while striking out 5 in 5 innings of work. JJ Bleday and Noelvi Marte homered for the Reds. Marte hit three home runs in as many games. But the Reds were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven. The Reds have lost five straight series after the Diamondbacks took two out of three over the weekend. The homestand continues when the Reds open a three-game series tonight against the New York Mets. Chase Burns makes the start for the Reds (7-1, 2,14 ERA). Before yesterday’s game, the Reds activated catcher Jose Trevino from the 10-day injured list. Trevino was placed on the IL last month with a left hamstring injury. In a corresponding roster move, the team optioned catcher P.J. Higgins to Triple-A Louisville.
Dennis Reinbold, whose Dreyer & Reinbold Racing has fielded cars in the IndyCar series and Indianapolis 500 for more than 25 years, died on Saturday at the age of 65. He founded Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in 1999 and fielded a variety of drivers in the IndyCar series including Sarah Fisher, Buddy Lazier, Al Unser Jr., Ryan Hunter-Reay and Conor Daly.
The Indiana Pacers will hold a pre-draft workout today in preparation for next week’s NBA Draft. Among those scheduled to take part are Purdue’s Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn.
