A familiar face will patrol the sidelines as Jac-Cen-Del boys basketball coach next year. The JCD school board this week approved the hiring of Scott Smith to lead the Eagles. Smith spent 23 highly successful seasons as Jac-Cen-Del girls coach which included a Class 1A state championship in 2016.  He stepped down following the ’23-’24 season. Smith succeeds Clint Bohman, who resigned last month. Bohman was at the helm for five seasons.

Batesville doubled up Franklin County 8-4 in JV baseball last evening. William Huber clubbed an inside the park home in the top of the 1st for the Bulldogs.

North Decatur rolled over Edinburgh 12-3 in varsity softball. The Chargers banged out 10 hits.

The NFL Draft kicked off last night in Green Bay. With the 17th overall pick, the Cincinnati Bengals selected Texas A & M defensive end Shamar Stewart. At #14, the Indianapolis Colts took Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. The overall #1 pick by Tennessee was Miami of Florida quarterback Cam Ward. The draft continues tonight and runs through Saturday.

The Pacers go up against the Bucks in Game 3 of their first round NBA playoff series tonight in Milwaukee. Indiana owns a two-games-to-none lead in the best of seven series. Airtime on the Sports Voice is 7:30.

The Reds open a three-game weekend series tonight in Denver against the Colorado Rockies. Andrew Abbott takes the mound for Cincinnati. He’ll be opposed by fellow lefthander Kyle Freeland. Coverage on 103.9 FM begins following Pacers playoff basketball.
