
Batesville topped St. Mary’s 212-239 in boys middle school golf last night at Hillcrest. Jarod Zins led the Bulldogs with a personal best 46.
The Cincinnati Reds crushed the Tampa Bay Rays 12-6 in a game heard last night on WRBI. The dozen runs scored is a season high for the Reds. Cincinnati hit five home runs on the night, including two off the bat of Elly De La Cruz. It was De La Cruz’s first career home run as a right-handed hitter vs. a right-handed pitcher. He has six career multi-homer games, which surpassed Pete Rose for the most multi-homer games by a switch-hitter in Reds history. Dane Myers, Spencer Steer and Ke’Bryan Hayes also went deep for the Reds, who have won five straight and seven of their last eight. Chase Burns got the win and is now 2-1. Burns gave up two runs and four hits over 5 2/3 innings with two walks and eight strikeouts. The Reds go for the series sweep this afternoon. Lefthander Brandon Williamson makes the start for Cincinnati; he’ll be opposed by former Red Nick Martinez. Airtime is 12:40 on 103.9 FM.
The Indiana Fever begins WNBA preseason play this weekend. Fever guard Sophie Cunningham spoke to the media on Tuesday and was emphatic about wanting to return to Indiana for the coming season. She said she did not want to lose a great environment to play in with the Fever. Cunningham missed the second half of last season with an injury. The regular season begins May 9.
