South Ripley Surges Past Rising Sun

The South Ripley Varsity Raiders scored five runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat Rising Sun 9-2 on Wednesday.  Austin Hodge singled, scoring two runs, Braxton Wilson singled, scoring one run, and Brogan Buchanan singled, scoring two runs.

Rising Sun got on the board in the top of the first inning after South Ripley committed an error, and DJ Williams singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Trevor Castner singled down the left field line, which helped the Raiders tie the game at two in the bottom of the third.

Gabe Stone opened the game for South Ripley. The hurler surrendered seven hits and two runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking none. Weston Cumberworth led things off on the bump for Rising Sun. The starter gave up six hits and seven runs (five earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking five. Mason McNew pitched three innings of no-run ball for South Ripley in relief. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out eight and walking one.

Hodge and Buchanan each drove in two runs for South Ripley. Castner led the Raiders with two hits in two at bats. Trenton Smith stole two bases and was on base 3 of his 4 at bats scoring 3 times.

Williams led Rising Sun with one run batted in. The catcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Rising Sun turned one double play in the game.

South Ripley will travel to Jac-Cen-Del for their next game on Friday.
