South Dearborn wins football rematch with Madison

In a 4A Sectional 23 round one contest in Jefferson County Friday, No. 14 South Dearborn avenged a regular season pigskin loss to Madison in a big way, 54-0.  The Cubs edged the Knights 29-26 during Week 2 in Aurora.

SD led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and 40-zip at halftime.  For the game, the Knights outgained the Cubs 486 yards to 41 and had a 20 to 2 advantage in first downs.

South Dearborn quarterback Adam Kunkel threw for 286 yards and five touchdowns and had one rush for six points as well.

C.J. Rogers had both a rushing and receiving touchdown and romped for 171 yards on the ground.  Justin McGraw was the team’s leading receiver topping the century mark at 103 on four grabs.  Teammate Reese Willoughby caught two balls, both for scores.  Other TD receptions were recorded by Isaiah Otto and Austin Ballart.  Ashton Kittle added a grounder for six points.

Coach Rand Ballart’s Knights are now 7-3 and head to 6-4 Martinsville in next Friday’s sectional semifinal.  The Artesians opened their tournament slate with a 33-13 victory at Silver Creek.
