East Central’s Sophie Browndyke has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Cedarville University and plans to major in sports psychology.

In a release provided by Jill Bingham of the East Central Athletic Department, Browndyke said, “Cedarville has everything I want.  The academics and athletics are a perfect fit for me.”

Browndyke will get to grow in her faith as well as Cedarville offers a Christ centered environment.  She loves the atmosphere of both the school and the soccer team.

Over the years, Sophie has developed many relationships with her teammates and hopes to remain close to them.

“It is important to me to be able to come back and support my teammates,” said Browndyke.  “The location of Cedarville (15 minutes northeast of Xenia, OH) will give me the opportunity to do just that.”

Browndyke’s soccer coach Bill Volker stated, “Sophie has been a leader on and off the field. I’m proud of what she has accomplished, and I’m sure her successes will continue to grow at the next level.”

Browndyke is also a memeber of the National Honor Society.  She has achieved exemplary honor roll and will be graduationg from East Central with technical and honors diplomas.

As a soccer player, Sophie has been named Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference (EIAC) All-Conference three years, an EIAC Defensive MVP two years, All-District, All-State Honorable Mention, and an EIAC Midfield MVP.

Browndyke was also a part of the Trojan football team for four years and excelled as a kicker where she was named EIAC All-Conference three years, All-District and an Indiana Football Coaches Association (IFAC) Academic All-State selection.

Football Coach Jake Meiners stated, “Sophie has always been one of the most dedicated players and very dependable on and off the field.”

We thank Jill Bingham for the release.
