Solar Petition Up for Further Consideration Next Month

(Greensburg, IN) – Cobia Solar’s request for a special exception to build a commercial solar energy facility in the Burney area was heard at this week’s Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals meeting.

The company laid out details about their plan for the proposed facility on more than 7,000 acres, and says this amounts to two percent of land in Decatur County.

Opponents gave a presentation similar to the one they used when RWE Energy sought to lease land north of Greensburg. That request was unanimously rejected by the BZA in September.

At the start of the meeting, the board said there would not be a vote this week.

The meeting, which was moved to the Greensburg High School Auditorium, started at 7 p.m. and recessed at 9:30 with plans to resume at the December 4 session.

Cobia is expected to start that night with a rebuttal to the opposition’s presentation.
