BATESVILLE – Community members will show their true colors this weekend when the Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) and Mayor’s Youth Council present the K-12 Mascot Run.
The event features an option for walkers and runners at any age level to participate. There is the BCEF 12K Run/Walk, the Applefest 5K, and the Family Fun 3K Trail Trek.
Each race begins at Liberty Park at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Registration begins an hour earlier.
BCEF Director Kelly Poltrack advises interested participants to pre-register to give organizers a clearer sense on how many will be taking part Saturday.

The unique event offers students, parents and residents the chance to represent their school, whether it is any of the Batesville schools, along with St. Louis School or Oldenburg Academy.
Any school that is represented by at least one hundred participants receives $500.
“It is a great event for the entire community and gives a chance for the community to come out and show support for the schools,” Poltrack explained.
Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite school mascot or in school spirit wear.
“We wanted to make it a fun event. Since we had the school theme, we thought we would go with a mascot theme,” Poltrack stated. “Come as your favorite school mascot! It doesn’t even have to be any of the school mascots, like a Colts or Bengals theme!”
Saturday’s races also feature a chance to honor a favorite teacher, administrator or coach.
Additional proceeds benefit Liberty Trail and BCEF to support grant requests from Batesville faculty, teams and groups.
There is no rain in the forecast Saturday with temperatures reaching the upper 70’s.
