Shirley Mae (Tope) Kestler

Shirley Mae (Tope) Kestler 85, of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away Sunday December 16, 2018 at her home.

She was born October 6, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of the late Herman D. Tope and Pearl (Metz) Tope.

Shirley worked as a City Coach Operator for Queen City Metro with over 11 years of service. She was one of the first four women hired as a city bus operator.

Shirley enjoyed crafts, quilting, painting, sewing and embroidering table cloths. She loved to play the piano, but time with her loving family was her greatest joy.

Shirley is survived by her children, J. Michael (Maria) Schehr of Independence, LA, Gayle Schehr (Kevin Tallon) of Rising Sun, IN, Gerard “Jerry” (Bonnie) Morano of Rising Sun, IN, Gregory “Gregg” (Stephanie) Morano of Rising Sun, IN; brothers, Herman “Del” Tope of Cincinnati, OH, David L (Gerdie) Tope of Fulshear, TX; long time friend and dear sister in law, Donna Withers; grandchildren, Lori (Charlie) Billingsley, Joshua M Schehr, Gregory A Morano, Jr., Lindsey N Morano, Kali L Morano and Danial (Amy) Taylor; great-granddaughters, Kayla M. Morano, Serena L. Billingsley and Stella Taylor; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received Wednesday, December 19, 2018, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 203 Fourth Street, Thursday December 20, 2018 at 11:00 am with Father Stephen Donahue officiating.
