(Decatur County, IN) — The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that seriously injured a pedestrian Saturday night.

Decatur County Dispatch received a report around 8:18 p.m. Saturday of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle in the area of 4800 East State Road 46. Investigators said the vehicle left the scene without stopping to check on the injured person.
Deputies arrived and found the victim sitting in a ditch and appearing to be in significant pain. The victim reported rib and back pain.
Decatur County EMS transported the victim to Decatur County Memorial Hospital. The victim was later flown by Lifeline to an Indianapolis-area hospital for additional treatment.
Deputies found a passenger-side mirror at the scene that investigators believe may have come from the vehicle involved in the incident.
The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the vehicle or driver to call 812-663-8125.
The investigation remains ongoing.
