Versailles, In. — The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office is cautioning residents about reports of scams that target direct deposits. The scammers allegedly contact employers through email acting as an employee and ask that the account number and routing number for their payroll deposit be changed.
Sheriff Jeff Cumberworth advises employers to check the email address thoroughly making sure it is valid and meet with the employee in person to verify the information for the change.
