Sharon Ann (Evans) Cross, 82, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
She was born on January 5, 1943, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, to the late Ralph H. Evans and Eloise (Schipper) Evans. Sharon was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Mary’s School. She then graduated from Aurora High School – Class of 1961. Soon after she met the love of her life, Earl, while working at Ullrich Drugstore. They married on May 4, 1963, and were blessed with two children, eleven months apart!
She was a devout Catholic who never drank, smoked, or cursed. Her children’s close friends lovingly called her “Sister Sharon”. No matter what time of night her children got home they would find her waiting in the living-room for their return. She refused to go to bed until she knew they were home safe and if they brought friends home, they were all also fed. There were many late-night hamburgers eaten by Randy and his friends! She spent numerous days over 5 years at Ridgewood attending to her daughter Debby’s needs as she battled her life-ending brain tumor. Sharon graciously offered support to her loved ones and if you needed her, she was there!
Sharon had a variety of passions that brought joy to her life. She loved to crochet, enjoyed bird watching, and was an avid reader, especially of murder mysteries. She was also a fan of soap operas, with Days of Our Lives being her escape. Sharon had an extensive Beanie Baby collection and a deep love for animals, particularly her dog, Ross, and her cat, Mellow. Above all, Sharon cherished spending time with her family, especially attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events. She helped raise all 4 of her grandchildren by picking them up after school, having sleepovers on weekends where they would bake and make homemade noodles. One of her fondest traditions was attending the Farmer’s Fair, where she would indulge in the delicious Elephant Ears.
As her memory began failing in early 2024 God blessed her with the gift of an angel in the form of her niece, Katrina Keck, who had just started her own care giving business, Isaiah’s Image. This gift allowed her to remain in her home until August 2024, when a hospital stay kept her from being able to return home. They continued their care for her at Ridgewood up to her final day. She loved her angels and would want to send her blessing to them all – God Bless Katrina, Montana, Stephanie, Ellie, & Robin.
She will be forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
Sharon is survived by her son, Randy (Meg) Cross of Lawrenceburg, IN; her grandchildren, Chelsey Ann (Zach) Dressman of Morning View, KY, Cassandra Jane (Jordan) Busse of Aurora, IN, Savanah Alexis Cross of Lawrenceburg, IN, and Nathan William Cross of Lawrenceburg, IN.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Earl “Buddy” Cross; her daughter, Deborah Ann Grubbs; her parents, Ralph and Eloise Evans; her sister, Georgette Martin; and her brother, Ralph Evans.
