Batesville, IN — In February, the Southeastern Indiana YMCA recognized several staff members with the YMCA S.O.A.R. Award (Service and Outstanding Achievement Recognition).

Aquatics group exercise instructor Scott Smith, and the YMCA Welcome Center team including Jan Prickel, Martha Harrington, Anita Narwold (all pictured), Susan Pleiss, and Nadine Davis (not pictured) were honored.

The SOAR award recognizes staff leaders who illustrate outstanding efforts to contribute to the success of the Southeastern Indiana YMCA community through their service and achievements.

Scott Smith – Kristen Fletcher, Southeastern Indiana YMCA Aquatics Director, said of Smith when presenting his award: “Scott began as a volunteer aquatics group exercise instructor before coming on staff. He’s always been willing to step up and help out when other instructors are on vacation. He and his wife, Tracy, co-lead a lot of classes and they make an awesome team. They’re dedicated to making sure their participants have a great experience and a good workout. Scott is always smiling, members love his music and it’s paying off! His attendance keeps growing. His last two classes had 37 participants! Everyone is benefitting,” Fletcher said.

Jan Prickel, Martha Harrington, Anita Narwold, Susan Pleiss, and Nadine Davis (Welcome Center Staff): – “These are the consistent champions of customer service,” said Jake Garvey, Southeastern Indiana YMCA Director of Operations. “They always greet members with a smile. They really stepped up during our January Membership Promotion and deserve credit for its success. They ensured all the shifts were covered and continued to onboard new staff members. Our Y would not be what it is without our fantastic membership team. They welcomed over 120 new members and their families to the Y in January!”

“We are grateful for these staff members that have effectively promoted the YMCA’s mission, vision, and strategic plans with colleagues, members, and the larger community,” said Tara Britton, Southeastern Indiana YMCA Chief Executive Officer.
