(Versailles, IN) – Several agencies were called to Hopewell Road Monday for a report of a gasoline tank on fire near a building.

Versailles Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and found the gas tank with the leaking gasoline on fire.

Firefighters worked quickly to get the flames under control and prevent them from spreading to the nearby structure.

The Otter Creek (Holton) Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid but was told to stand down after the fire was brought under control.

After further investigation, a large amount of gasoline was discovered in a nearby waterway, and firefighters built dams to control and contain the spill.

Because of a recurring fire from the vapors in a gravel area near the structure, the Osgood Fire Department was called to the scene to provide additional foam concentrate. Napoleon firefighters came to the scene to provide additional hazmat control materials, and the Aurora Fire Department went to the Versailles fire station to provide coverage.

Ripley County Emergency Management and Ripley County EMS also responded.

No one was injured.
