Senator Leising recognizes Memorial Day

Oldenburg, In. — May 30, 1868, was the first Decoration Day, when thousands of people decorated more than 20,000 graves of those who lost their lives during the Civil War. That day began what we now call Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday in May, and has been considered a national holiday since 1971.

As we celebrate this day with our family and friends, let us take time to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
