(Greensburg, IN) – A semi hauling potatoes caught fire and forced the closing of eastbound I-74 near Greensburg Monday morning.

Decatur County Sheriff Bill Meyerrose’s office says the initial call went out just before 5:40 a.m. on the interstate near the 138 mile marker.

The driver, John Gregory Bronson of Pocatello, Idaho, told deputies his brakes caught on fire which caused the trailer to become fully engulfed.

Greensburg and New Point firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire.

Both eastbound lanes were shut down until just before 8 a.m. when the left lane was opened to traffic.
