Semi driver knocked out by thrown rock on I-74 near St. Paul

(Decatur County, IN) – A Fed Ex semi driver was flown to an Indianapolis hospital following a crash involving a thrown rock on westbound I-74 near St. Paul early Sunday morning.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says deputies arriving on the scene just before 3 am found the semi in the median near the 127-mile marker.

Deputies say the driver was semiconscious and had suffered significant head injuries, and they spotted damage to his windshield.

The unidentified driver was flown by StatFlight to St. Vincent Hospital.

Video from the scene has been recovered and is being examined, but deputies say evidence indicates a rock was thrown thru the semi’s windshield and struck the driver in the head.

The driver’s child was riding in the semi but was not hurt.

Anyone with information that can help with the investigation is urged to call the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office at (812) 663-8125.
